A rare opportunity has arisen for a talented horticulturist and expert gardener to lead a team of gardeners in the maintenance, restoration, as well as assisting in theconstruction of a monumental private garden in Tuscany, twenty minutes south of Florence.
Set within a 260 hectare agricultural estate, The all-seasons gardens of Tenuta Maryamado will include exceptionally-detailed Italian formal gardens,contemporary landscapes, extensive vegetable, herb, and fruit gardens, as well as woodland, meadow, and Japanese gardens. Water is a central theme of the Maryamado gardens as is the importance of working with natural systems design and improving the biodiversity of the entire estate.

The gardens must be meticulously planned and managed to ensure efficiency and maintenance of the highest standards of horticulture and presentation.

This fulltime position will suit an experienced Senior Gardener looking to take the next step in their career, or an existing Head Gardener with a desire to take on a large and diverse garden in order to utilize their full horticultural skill set.

The successful applicant will work closely with the property owner, landscape architect, and agricultural Team.

This new opportunity will suit an energetic, hands-on, and qualified horticulturist with excellent attention to detail who will work with the landscape architecture Team in the development of the garden restoration and maintenance plan, but
also during the development of construction specifications for horticultural-related items.
The selected candidate will work closely with the Landscape Architects during the construction of the gardens in order to have a complete understanding of the garden infrastructure as well as design vision and objects to be met asconstruction is completed and the maintenance period begins.

Ideally, selected candidates would be fluent in English and Italian with excellent verbal communication skills and a positive attitude.

The head gardener will carry out day to day management of garden and grounds staff, maintain records, order and control supplies, oversee maintenance of estate machinery, manage and maintain the estate’s water and irrigation system, implement changes and seasonal requirements and assist the estate manager with any ad-hoc tasks.
